What are the API and MCP for?
- Pull the visibility score and share of voice into your own reporting dashboard.
- Ask your AI assistant "which questions did we lose this week, and what is next"; it builds the answer from your AIShortlist data.
- As an agency, collect results for several clients in one place.
- Open tasks in your own tracker after the weekly measurement.
What is the MCP server, and how do you connect?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open protocol that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools and data. The AIShortlist MCP server offers ten tools your assistant can use to read your visibility data.
The address is https://app.aishortlist.app/mcp. Create a key under Account > API and MCP in the dashboard, then give your MCP client that address and the key.
| Tool | What it returns |
|---|---|
| list_question_sets | Lists the question sets in your account |
| get_visibility | Visibility score, share of voice and per-engine results for a question set |
| get_rivals | Competitors, their shares and status labels |
| get_answers | The answer text and sources each engine returned in the last measurement |
| get_events | Notifications: questions won and lost, competitor and source changes |
| get_todo | The to-do list |
| get_missing_list_pages | List pages that are cited but do not name your brand |
| get_daily_tracking | Results for the questions tracked daily |
| get_strategy | The strategy summary for that measurement |
| get_brand_facts | Brand facts and fact accuracy results |
What can you read through the API?
The API returns the same data as the MCP tools, as JSON: question sets, visibility, competitors, answers, notifications, to-dos, daily tracking, the strategy summary and brand facts.
Requests are made with a key. The key is shown once when it is created; if you lose it, create a new one. An account can hold up to 5 keys.
Why read-only?
The API and MCP only read. Write actions such as adding questions, starting a measurement or changing the account cannot be done with a key; they are done in the dashboard.
The reason is safety: even if a key, or an assistant connected with it, ends up in the wrong hands, it cannot change your account or spend credits.
What are the limits?
- The data is the result of the latest measurement; the API does not trigger a new one.
- Measurements come from three engines: ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
- The MCP server works as one request, one response; it does not support streaming.
Which plans include it?
API and MCP access is open on Pro ($499) and Agency ($999). On other plans you can export the data as Excel or CSV (Growth and above) and show it with a share link.
